Pakistan PM frisked, humiliated at US Airport

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was humiliated at a US airport on Wednesday as he was asked to remove his belt before being frisked as part of a security check of all passengers.

A video grab shows Abbasi, in a maroon T-shirt and black trousers putting on his belt after the security check up at the airport. He is also seen picking up his coat and bag, before walking away in the video that has gone viral on social media.

Abbasi was said to be on a personal visit and the frisking is said to have taken place last week at JKF airport in New York.

The Pakistan media is furious over the incident. Some have even slammed Abbasi for not registering a protest with the US authorities.

The humiliation faced by the Pakistan Prime Minister comes in the backdrop of US having imposed sanctions on several Pakistani companies on March 22. They have been placed under ‘Entity List’ which makes it harder from these companies to do business with US.

There are also reports that the Trump administration is considering imposing visa restrictions and other sanctions on individuals in the Pakistani government.

Pakistan’s ties with one time ally USA are at an all time low as USA is suspect of Pakistan’s role in supporting Islamic terrorism, and for support being given to militants waging war in Afghanistan.
